Principal’s Message

Tena koutou katoa,
As we land the Rise UP Academy waka for 2022 and prepare for a well deserved holiday, I would like to thank you all for your ongoing commitment and support for our school vision : SHARP MINDS, STRONG BODIES, GOOD HEARTS!.
Despite all the challenges our students and staff have completed another year of amazing milestones, and some we’d rather forget.
Our Awards ceremony was a beautiful acknowledgement of our students learning progress. Congratulations to all our students and particularly the recipients of the Special Awards:

This year we have prioritised the well-being of students and staff in all our decision making through the Lockdowns. Once again,we now see the impact of Covide and the ‘Covid Dip’, much like the ‘Summer Dip’ when junior students reading can fall back a bit if we don’t encourage our children to keep reading. So, lets beat the ‘Covid Dip’ and challenge ourselves to clock up some READING MILEAGE with our children over the Summer break. There are library programmes running still so post your pictures of your whanau reading on our Te RUA FB page to encourage and inspire others to beat the Summer Dip!
Next year our 2023 theme is Pacific Navigators. We are planning lots of fun exciting learning experiences and look forward to the new year.
We have had a major focus on Stewardship this year with students and staff so I know the children will be grateful for whatever small gifts they receive at Christmas. My son asked me what I would like for Christmas and I said ”Peace and new towels please” Have a wonderful break spending time resting and quality time with your loved ones.

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;

Recent Events

MARKET DAY

Our Market Day was a beautiful day to showcase what our students planned, re-planned, worked collaboratively with each other, encountered barriers but didn’t give up, and the list goes on. Their mission was to create and make a sellable product to raise funds for more IT devices, and I’m sure you would all agree they absolutely did us proud. The learning that went on throughout the term was priceless, the ideas that needed to be tamed, the ‘not agreeing of what to do’ the ‘budget constraints’ and much more and then to see it play out in an authentic event such as our Market Day, I’m sure this will be a memorable day for all. And not to mention the ‘hustling’ that went on during the day to get you all to buy! What a fantastic day. I would like to extend our thanks to you all for emptying your pockets happily and for all the generous donations, thank you to our wonderful Komiti Tupu Mai for your hard mahi on the day cooking our food, thank you to our principal Sita & BOT for the funds, thank you to our hard-working staff who ensured everything was ready, and thank you to our ‘entrepreneurs’ our Rise UP tamariki you did us proud, lastly we give all honour and glory to our Father God for being with us every step of the way. We raised a whopping total of $8,103.00 on the day! Have a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year! 2023 here we come!

KIDS CHRISTMAS at RUA

Blessed is how we felt as a school when Deanne, Daniel (King’s College), Signe (Marac) and a group of volunteers with the biggest hearts gifted ALL our RUA students with christmas presents. These gift were donated by some whanau from Kings College, from Marac, Suncorp and other groups.

Our students wrote letters to santa stating ‘what they wanted’ and ‘what they needed’ and then these were forwarded on to Deanne and team and then they went to work by trying to obtain all our students requested. This was very timely especially as our theme for the term has been Stewardship and being grateful and faithful with what we have been given or entrusted with.

RUA FUN DAY

After the wonderful morning of receiving presents and being grateful for what we have received we had our FUN DAY!

This was in lieu of our cancelled Rainbows End trip and then cancelled Inflatable Sports Day due to COVID and wet weather so Plan C saw our children enjoying wet weather movies and games which was capped off with a treat that was beyond their wildest dreams – having McDonalds for lunch! We have some very excited children who gratefully munched away on their happy meals that afternoon.

End Of Year Awards and Year 8 Graduation

Nga mihi nui ki a koutou, Congratulations to all our students who received awards for their learning this year and especially for those who received special awards. What an amazing celebration and the atmosphere was electric especially when you our lovely whanau acknowledged your children’s efforts and hard work. Some of those ula lole’s were impressive!

AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMME/ SUPA SHOWCASE

Thank you parents for committing to our After School Programme. It has been a full term on watching and admiring the gifts and talents of your children. We were grateful to be able to celebrate their hard work with our End of Year SUPA Showcase hosted by Loimata Lilo-Tua Akatea, Ayaan Samy and Micah Waites. Thank you parents for your love and support for not only your child/ren but all our whanau.

2023 sees us bringing back our CULTURE programme on Tuesdays from 3pm-4.30pm. All children 6 years and over are expected to attend this free programme unless engaged in other extra curricular activities outside of school. We will continue to have SUPA on Mondays from 3pm-4.30pm ONLY for students in Rooms 1, 2 & 3.

We look forward to Tupewise 2 in 2023 in which our parents will be looking at home ownership-financial planning, business start up or investments. This is a more personalized course tailored to our parents goals.

WORKING BEE

Thank you so much to all our parent volunteers for all your hard work at our working bee in Week 6. We appreciate you spending your precious Saturday morning with us and working through all the task requests so diligently! If you missed out this time round don’t worry we’ll need your help next year for future events!

Scripture for the term:
Psalm 24:1
The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters.

Genesis 1: 26
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

Isaiah 9: 6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
